GEO basics
What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?+
GEO is the practice of making your brand visible and cited inside answers from generative AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude. What SEO is to Google, GEO is to AI answers: the goal isn't to rank a link — it's to be named and cited inside the answer itself.
What is an AI answer engine?+
It's a system that replies to a question with one synthesized answer instead of ten blue links: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Overviews. It reads dozens of sources, names a few brands and cites a few domains — and the user often acts on that answer without ever clicking.
How is GEO different from SEO?+
SEO optimizes to rank in a list of links; GEO optimizes to be mentioned and cited inside the answer. SEO's unit is page + keyword, GEO's unit is brand + prompt. Both share the foundations of crawlability, authority and clear content, but they're measured and won in different ways.
Is GEO the same as AEO or 'LLM SEO'?+
They're close cousins. AEO (answer engine optimization) focuses on being the direct answer to a question, LLM SEO on being visible inside language models, and GEO on being named and cited inside generative answers. In practice they overlap heavily; GEO is often used as the umbrella term that includes the others.
Why does GEO matter now?+
Search is changing shape. People increasingly get a single AI answer and act on it without clicking — the zero-click reality. If your brand isn't in that answer, you're invisible at the exact moment of intent. Classic SEO dashboards can't see this, because the click never happens.
What's the difference between a brand mention and a domain citation?+
A brand mention is when AI names your BRAND in its answer (critical for hotels, brands and local businesses). A domain citation is when AI cites your DOMAIN as a source (critical for content, SaaS and SEO). CiteLens measures both separately and lets you toggle between the two lenses.
How CiteLens works
How is CiteLens different from classic SEO tools?+
Tools like Ahrefs/Semrush measure Google rankings, backlinks and keywords — all built for the ten-blue-links world. CiteLens measures visibility INSIDE the AI answer: whether your brand is mentioned and your domain is cited, benchmarked against competitors.
What exactly does CiteLens measure?+
For each prompt it reports two distinct signals: how often AI names your brand and how often it cites your domain — each with a 95% confidence interval, per engine and benchmarked against competitors. On top of that, it gives a prioritized action list for closing the gap.
Which AI engines do you track?+
ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude (with web search). Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Overviews are being added — anywhere your customers ask questions.
Can I track competitors?+
Yes. Add your competitors and CiteLens measures them side by side with you on every prompt. You see 'who does ChatGPT recommend for this question, and where am I' as a clear citation share, not a guess.
Does CiteLens just measure, or tell me how to improve?+
Both. Alongside the measurement it generates recommendations: which pages aren't citable, which prompts you're losing, and which sources you need mentions on — a list that takes you from measurement to action.
What is the GEO audit / crawlability check?+
The free /geo-check tool inspects whether your site is open to AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, and whether your content is structured to be quotable. To be cited, you first have to be reachable.
Data & methodology
Is the data reliable? AI answers differently every time.+
Correct — that's why we run each prompt multiple times and report a visibility rate with a 95% Wilson confidence interval. You get a statistically sound measurement, not a one-off snapshot.
How many times do you run each prompt?+
AI answers are probabilistic, so a single run is misleading. We run each prompt multiple times, aggregate the results and compute a rate with a confidence interval — so the number you see is the real trend, not noise.
How often should I scan?+
AI answers drift over time. For most brands a weekly scan is enough to catch the trend; competitive or fast-moving niches can scan more often.
Where does your citation data come from?+
Not synthetic estimates — we run your prompts live across the real AI engines and parse the returned answer and the sources it shows. What we measure is the answer your customer actually sees.
Can I see the actual AI answers and sources?+
Yes. The citations explorer shows, for each prompt, the answer the AI gave, the brands it named and the source URLs it cited — so you can inspect the raw evidence behind every number.
Do you support languages other than English?+
Yes. CiteLens supports multilingual prompts and the interface runs in English and Turkish. Because citation slots are emptier in lower-content languages (e.g. Turkish), bilingual measurement is a real opportunity for many brands.
Getting started
How do I get started?+
Sign up, add your brand and a few prompts (AI suggests them), then run your first scan. Within minutes you'll see where you stand across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude.
Can I start for free?+
Yes. The free plan includes 10 prompts, and every paid plan has a 14-day trial — both with no card required. You can see your brand's AI visibility with zero risk.
How long does setup take?+
Minutes. There's no site change or code integration; measurement starts as soon as you enter your brand and prompts. AI speeds up the first setup with prompt suggestions tailored to your industry.
How many prompts do I need?+
Starting with the 10–30 questions your customers actually ask is enough for most brands. Cover the main buyer-intent questions in your category; you can widen coverage over time.
Do I need to install anything or change my site?+
No. CiteLens measures from outside your site — it queries the AI engines on your behalf. There's no code, plugin or DNS change; you just create your account.
What's a 'prompt' in CiteLens?+
A prompt is a real question your customer would ask an AI — for example 'which is the best hair transplant clinic in Istanbul?'. CiteLens runs that question across engines and measures whether your brand appears in the answer.
Pricing & plans
How much does CiteLens cost?+
Free plan $0 (10 prompts), Starter $79/mo, Growth $249/mo, Pro $599/mo and Agency $1499/mo. Pricing is transparent and listed with real numbers on the pricing page — no waiting for a quote.
What's the difference between the plans?+
The main differences are prompt volume, number of engines covered, team seats and agency features. Higher plans unlock more prompts, more frequent scans, more workspaces and white-label reporting. You upgrade as your needs grow.
What happens if I exceed my prompt quota?+
Scanning doesn't stop; extra usage is billed as overage — $0.06 / $0.05 / $0.04 per prompt depending on your plan. So a busy month never interrupts your visibility measurement.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes — a 14-day trial on every paid plan, no card required. There's also a permanent free plan (10 prompts) so you can start without paying anything.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. Plans are monthly and you can cancel anytime; there's no long-term contract. On cancellation your access continues to the end of the period.
Do you offer done-for-you audits or consulting?+
Yes. You can book a $299 consulting call from inside the app; for bigger needs, our AI Visibility Audit packages ($499 / $1499 / $3000) have our team run the audit for you.
Security, teams & agencies
Is my data secure?+
Data is scoped to your account and organization, with tenant isolation, hashed credentials and role-based access. Your measurement data is never shared with other customers.
Are you KVKK/GDPR compliant?+
Yes. Export and permanent deletion of your data are supported, and processing follows KVKK/GDPR principles. You keep full control over the data in your account.
Can my whole team use it?+
Yes. There's role-based team access and multiple workspaces; you can spin up separate workspaces per client or brand and assign permissions by role.
Do you support agencies / white-label?+
Yes. White-label reporting lets agencies present AI visibility to clients under their own brand — together with multiple workspaces and role management.
Is there an API?+
Yes. API keys and a public /v1 endpoint let you pull your measurement data into your own dashboards or workflows — programmatic access is available on higher plans.
Can I export my data / reports?+
Yes. You can export results as CSV and, for agencies, as white-label PDF reports; the API also gives you programmatic access to the raw data.
